Before becoming synonymous of measurement to know how much beer you are able to drink, the Caguama had a goal: to be an ideal presentation to share with your friends. After almost a hundred years of life in this container, Cerveceria Cuauhtemoc produces 800,000 liters of Carta Blanca beer in its Monterrey plant, equivalent to 3.5 million Caguamas per month.
This container originally defined as familiar size. Was named for its shape (similar to tortoise) being the Carta Blanca brand, the first that defined this bottle capacity of 940 milliliters as what is now known as Caguama.
The popularity and preference for this packaging detonated in the sixties, a stage in which the northern brewer of the country began with a series of innovations in the packaging and packaging of its products.
“In 1960, the Caguama of Carta Blanca appears, although this familiar presentation already had it since the 20s or 30s, but from that moment it began to popularize for the same of its innovative concept”, Roberto Lara, Specialist and brewery historian of the company Cuauhtemoc.
Perhaps the motive that gave rise to this opening and commercialization of Carta Blanca Caguamas was that it became the favorite of the middle class. It was the talk of a beer for popular classes and low middle sectors. This would imply a saving at the time of a reception and instead of several bottles there would be a single and large to share.
At this stage, the Caguama was only distributed with Carta Blanca beer because it was the oldest and the most sold at that time.
“Currently Carta Blanca is a regional brand, was always present in the north but little by little, years later, began to enter other cities like Mexico City where it had its peak in the eighties,” says the historian.
Later the beer incorporated this packaging in its other beers as other companies began to see attractive this packaging to sell their beer.
From the north of Mexico to the world
At its Monterrey plant, Cervecería Cuauhtémoc packs 2,000 cans per minute. Through laser technology, recharge all bottles with imperfections. This company uses 3,500 kilograms of hops a month.
For brewing, 6,500 tons of malt and barley are used on a monthly basis. At the Monterrey plant, Cuauhtémoc produces beers from Tecate, Luz Tecate, Sol, XX Lager, XX Ambar, Indio, Carta Blanca, Bohemia, Luz Coors and Kloster Luz.
The beer that is produced in this plant is exported to the United States of America, Canada, some countries in Latin America, and Europe.
